Chief Examiners

 

As we’re moving into the 2nd year of the Functional Skills pilot, we now require 3 Chief Examiners, one for each Functional Skills subject (English, Maths and ICT).

Role Description – Chief Examiner

 
Main Function of Role:
To ensure that the standards of the externally assessed component of NCFE qualifications are consistent across centres, candidates and from year to year.

 
Accountable To:
Principal Chief

 
Description of Function:

  • Approve live assessment papers for balance and cohesion

  • Approve awarding and standardisation for completed assessment papers

  • Advise on the external assessment component function

  • Ensure that, where required, examining teams are properly co-ordinated and perform to the required standards

  • Ensure that, where required, Examiners are properly qualified and trained

  • Work with the Chief Moderator for the qualification (where applicable) and Principal Chief and with NCFE staff to produce the qualification assessment specification

  • Attend Chief Examiner training

  • Liaise with NCFE staff, Examiners and centres

  • Adhere to service level agreements

  • Deal with queries on papers and questions/tasks

  • Complete a Chief Examiner’s annual evaluation report.

  • Adhere to established NCFE work processes

  • Attend training events and other meetings as required

  • Provide excellent levels of customer service at all times

  • Adhere to NCFE’s Code of Practice for External Contractors

 
Requirements to undertake the role:

 
Essential

  • Professional qualification (at Level 4/5) relating to the sector area

  • Minimum of 3 years’ employment in the relevant sector or at least 3 years’ teaching experience in the sector area

  • Have moderation/examining experience

  • Understanding of effective quality assurance mechanisms

  • Willingness/Ability to travel extensively where required

  • Be ICT literate using Microsoft Office, Word and e-mail

 
Desirable

  • Hold D32, 33, 34, 35 or equivalent qualifications/skill
