Happy birthday to us

NCFE is celebrating reaching a milestone, as 2008 marks our 160th anniversay.

NCFE, as we are today, has a long established history which began in the north east when the Northern Union of Mechanics was formed. The objective of the Northern Union was to promote free libraries and reading rooms throughout the counties of Northumberland and Durham, particularly in rural areas that had limited or no access to learning.

Of course we’re now a national awarding body and deliver qualifications to a quarter of a million learners each year but we’re not going to let this milestone pass without celebration.

We'll be celebrating our anniversary throughout the year and at our National Student of the Year Awards ceremony taking place at Newcastle Racecourse on Wednesday 12 November 2008.

Keep an eye on the website and future editions of NCFE News to find out how we'll be marking our historic year.
