New Diplomas

‘The Diploma is a new qualification to recognise achievement at ages 14 to 19. It will combine practical skill development with theoretical and technical understanding and knowledge.’ – QCA, The Diploma factsheet, July 2006

NCFE’s involvement in the 14-19 Diplomas
Awarding Bodies have now been provided with the criteria to be used for developing the components of the Diploma.  There have been no formal decisions regarding grading, and we are waiting for criteria from QCA.

The criteria will enable Awarding Bodies to develop the units of the Diploma.  QCA have also set criteria which must be met by any Awarding Body wanting to be either a Diploma Awarding Body (DAB) or a Component Awarding Body (CAB).

The qualifications will be accredited by May 2007, to enable a year of planning before first teaching starts in September 2008.

'It is our intention that NCFE remains very closely involved with new Diploma developments.'
 - David Grailey, Chief Executive NCFE.
